Gupta Godavari is situated 18 kms away from Chitrakoot. Legend has it that Lord Rama and Lakshmana stayed here for some time during their exile. The Gupt Godavari is a cave system within a cave, with knee-high water levels. The larger cave has two stone thrones that belong to Rama and Lakshmana.
